How To Grow Luxurious Hair Quickly And Easily

Healthy hair begins on the inside. There is a definite link between the foods you eat and the health of your hair.

Of course there are other reasons why your hair may be thinning, brittle, dry or lack lustre such as:

  • thyroid/adrenal issues
  • candida overgrowth
  • mineral imbalance
  • vitamin deficiency
  • parasites
  • stress

Remember, you can feed your hair from the inside and outside. By applying nourishing food based masks, your are doing your hair, follicles and scalp the world of good. Try using a castor oil (certified organic oil only), avocado oil, hempseed oil and coconut oil mask once a week. Massage into the scalp gently and leave on for at least 30 minutes. If you can, leave on overnight. Wash out with a gentle shampoo such as Shea Moisture Shea Butter Shampoo.

Foods and Nutrients for Luxurious Hair

  1. Essential Fatty Acids: these are called essential for a reason. You need to consume them in the diet as your body does not manufacture them. Great food sources are nuts, flaxseeds – always ensure to freshly mill these, and avocado. Supplements such as Udo’s DHA/EPA Vegan Blend oil or Dr Furhman’s Vegan EPA/DHA blend are the best.

  1. GLA – an omega 6 that is very hard to come by in the diet. The best source is Blackcurrent oil. Ensure it is hexane free. This oil will truly make your hair thicker, stronger, longer and more healthy in a short time. You will notice the results in a matter of weeks.
  2. Biotin, Folic Acid and Inositol for luxurious hair. Biotin is a water soluable vitamin of the B Complex family which encourages hair and scalp health. Include lots of leafy green vegies, some nuts and brown rice. In fact supplement with a good quality Activated B Complex ensures you get a full spectrum dose of B’s.
  3. MSM – Methylsulfonylmethane aids in the production of keratin, while also strengthening hair follicles. 100 percent of people who supplemented with MSM showed reduced hair loss and increased hair growth in as little as six weeks! Your hair will be amazingly stronger, your skin will glow and your nails will benefit in every way. This is the ultimate beauty mineral.
  4. Iron from blackstrap molasses. Add a tablespoon to smoothies. Stock up on your leafy green vegies. Enjoy a small handful of cashews each day (which are also full of tryptophan, the amino acid that turns into serotonin – for good mood and healthy sleep). To help you absorb iron, you will need enough Vitamin C
  5. Ensure You Have a Good Supply of Minerals – silica, zinc and magnesium are beauty minerals. These are all critical, not only for bone health and growth, but for hair growth. Take 500mg of silica twice a day, 30mg-60mg of zinc once a day (preferably on an empty stomach though be careful with this as it is extremely detoxifying and can make a person feel ill) and 400mg-800mg of magnesium citrate, preferably as a powder, per day spread out over 2 doses.

Zinc affects the glands attached to your hair follicles. When these are deficient in zinc, the follicles get weak, causing strands to break off or fall out. Zinc can be found in pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts and pecans.

Natural food sources of silica are cucumber, mango, green leafy vegies, celery, asparagus and a herb called Horsetail. Please be very careful taking horsetail if you have any pins, plates, screws or artificial anything in your body. Horsetail solution WILL dissolve a lump of gold in months. It will also dissolve anything that is not meant to be in the body including calcium spurs and deposits.

  1. Address A Possible Underactive Thyroid/Adrenal Fatigue – the thyroid is oftentimes, affected by adrenal fatigue and vice versa. It truly pays to see a Natural Health Practitioner who is able to test for, and assess thyroid and adrenal function.

Consuming foods such as nourishing sea vegetables, full of healthy bioavailable iodine helps to heal and nourish the thyroid. Add some raw nori, wakame, kombu and dulse to your daily salads/soups.

Avoid tap water filled with nasty fluoride and chlorine. Both chemicals affect the thyroid, and especially they pituitary gland. The hypothalamus, called the Master gland, together with the Pituitary gland, work in combination to govern all the other glands in the body. When these glands in top condition, the whole body is in top condition.

  1. Essential Oils And Herbal Teas – herbs are wonderful healers, as are essential oils. Herbal teas are a much safer option than the super concentrated essential oils. In saying that, some great herbs that you can make a strong herbal decoction (long simmering tea) out of are: horsetail, nettles, rosemary, thyme and even onion skins! Use as a final rinse and allow to dry.

You can make a scalp treatment with essential oils such as basil, thyme, grapefruit, rosemary, cedarwood, hempseed oil. Add a couple drops of each to the hempseed oil and massage into the scalp. Leave overnight and wash out the next morning.

Eat a rainbow. Everyday. The more colours you eat, in as close to their natural state as possible, ensures you get a wider spectrum of nutrients.
